What is a Javelina?

A javelina is a homely little pig-like creature (collared peccary to be precise)that runs around looking for garbage, vegetables, or other javelinas.  They are known to be aggressive and smelly.   They have scent glands under their eyes so when they rub their faces on you or another javelina, they leave a stinky goo.  Gives a whole new meaning to the term “stink eye.”

Javelinas are notoriously uncooperative.  If you bait them with apples from the orchard and/or giant marshmallow refuse, they will not appear.  The moment you turn your back, they will forage around your garbage cans in the hopes of finding some unlicked yogurt containers.  Beasts.

They run in packs.  If we actually ever SAW one on a hunt, we would all scream and run the other way.  But the idea is cute.  So is this guy when viewed from the right angle and in the right light.

I think he’s saying “Whooo boy!  Look at the size of those puffies!”

And here is a video to show you what we have never managed to do.  See a javelina.
